designing for a great cause

The 50/31 Challenge is an annual fundraising event supporting the National Brain Tumor Society—50 miles run across 31 days. I was brought in to create not just the logo, but also the visual identity for both 2023 and 2024 that would live through organic social and merchandise.

During my involvement, the campaign raised tens of thousands of dollars, with the visuals playing a key role in driving community participation and visibility for the cause.

ROLE

Identity Designer

2023

The 2023 identity led with energy and approachability. The logo was built into the shape of a shoe sole—an illustrated design that felt personal and community-driven rather than corporate.

Bright blue, loose, and fun, this identity was designed to do three things: motivate the runners already committed, welcome newcomers being introduced to the challenge for the first time, and drive merchandise sales—a percentage of which went directly to the National Brain Tumor Society alongside open donations.

2024

For 2024, the brief shifted entirely. The challenge had grown, and the identity needed to reflect that—something that felt less like an invitation and more like a call to arms.

A bold running silhouette set against a stark yellow and black palette, with condensed typography that commanded the screen. Where 2023 welcomed you in, 2024 dared you to show up. Same cause, different energy entirely.
